YESMART Ogawara Store The “Hitome Senbonzakura” rows of cherry trees along the Shiraishigawa bank, with the Zao mountain range in the background, are famous both in Japan and abroad.

In the Edo period (1603-1867), it was a post town on the Oshu highway, and when it came under the direct control of the Sendai han (feudal domain), an okariya (a lodging facility for deputy officials and feudal lords) was located here. The town was originally established when Kaijiro Takayama, a businessman from Okawara Town, donated and planted about 700 saplings in 1923 and about 500 saplings in 1927.
